name: Yugo Takahata
age, dob: 18 | February 24, 2006
pronouns: He/him
occupation: Motorcycle racer
element: Wind
A young motorcycle racer who (unknowingly) accepted a possession deal to avoid dying. Quick tempered, excitable, and somewhat of a dumbass, but generally means well.
+ history (CW: Near Fatal Motorcycle Accident)
Yugo, a perfectly normal, non supernatural child, was left to the foster system at a very young age, young enough that he never got to know his biological parents. As a result, he grew used to moving from foster to foster, never staying with any one long enough to really view them as true parents. It's in this time period that he first met Shio ([personal profile] reignitions), a fellow foster kid.

As he grew older, Yugo began to pick up an interest in motorsports, particularly motorcycle sports. The high energy sport drew his attention, and a particularly generous foster family helped enable him into the sport once he became old enough to ride his own motorcycle. It was something stable, something that he could hold onto in the inherent instability of the foster system.

However, Yugo was also a reckless teen, and was prone to trying tricks he saw online. At the age of seventeen, just short of his eighteenth birthday, he attempted a particularly risky stunt on his dirtbike in hopes of impressing his friends.

It went horrifically. Yugo was unable to replicate the stunt, and ended up in a nasty crash. Seriously injured, Yugo would have died even before making it to the hospital...

...if it weren't for the interference of the draconic entity Zarc. Zarc, appearing to Yugo as he hovered on the edge of death, offered to save his life so long as Yugo agreed to 'entertain the masses' at least once a month. It seemed like an easy enough choice to Yugo, so he agreed.

Afterwards, Yugo awoke in the hospital to find out that he miraculously survived his accident, the interaction with Zarc only half remembered. He recovered remarkably fast, getting back to his life faster than anyone could have expected for such a serious accident. And in testament to his resilience, Yugo returned to motorcycle sports, switching from dirt bike racing to more traditional motorcycle races in order to satisfy his end of his deal with Zarc. He's proven skilled at motorcycle races for someone so young, setting up a solid win streak that has, so far, gone unbroken.

(Unbeknownst to Yugo, his 'deal' made it so that he's now possessed by Zarc, blessed with boosts to his abilities and increased healing capability but at the cost of having to participate in some kind of public entertainment once a month and win. So far, he has no clue what will happen if he loses a race.)

Beyond that, his life continues to look up. He recently got officially adopted by the Takahatas, thus making Shio his brother and giving him some additional stability now that he's finally out of the foster system. And most recently, a strange app called Libra has appeared on Yugo's phone, and refuses to leave...
+ possession
Yugo is possessed by the draconic entity Zarc. This grants him boosts to his abilities and improved healing, but comes at a steep cost: Yugo must participate in some kind of public entertainment at least once a month and win. Yugo satisfies this via motorcycle races.

If Yugo doesn't win, then Zarc throws a hissy fit forces Yugo into demon mode and makes him attack anyone in the area until either Yugo is subdued or Zarc drags him to the Spirit Realm. Likewise, failing to enter enough races to please Zarc will cause Zarc to become increasingly angry until a demon mode incident is forced.

Additionally, strong emotion may cause things to occasionally break around Yugo, and if Yugo falls to utter despair then he may be dragged off to the Spirit Realm.

At this point, Yugo is unaware of the true nature of his agreement with Zarc and believes that he just struck a deal with him to avoid dying. He has no clue he's possessed, and especially has no clue what will happen if he ever loses a race. Zarc himself doesn't tend to talk to Yugo either, which doesn't help with cluing him into his current state.
+ abilities
-Medium Luck: Yugo's luck is improbably high. This will affect gacha results and give +2 to all side quests and actions that require a dice roll.
-Medium Speed Boost: Can move 3x faster than the average person. (Gain a +2 on any speed-based rolls.)
-Low Fall Damage Reduction: Can withstand falls from 10 feet (3 meters).
-Small Spirit Companion: Summon a wind-spirit companion that is the size of a hamster or fits in your hand. Yugo's spirit companion (which he's named Clear Wing) looks like this.
-Medium Rainbow Wind: Yugo's wind takes on any colour scheme of his choice, regardless of what element it's wielding. Obtained via grab bag purchase in November 2024.
-Conjure Wind (Small): Conjure a small gust of air (Compressed air duster strength). Obtained in January 2025. Happy new year!
-General Possession Boosts: Being possessed grants Yugo a +1 to all his abilities (except intelligence). The possession also makes Yugo recover from injuries faster and makes him more resistant to getting sick (though he is not more resistant to catching colds).
-Demon Mode: Due to his possession, Yugo can enter a state where Zarc takes more control of him when in mortal danger or when experiencing heightened emotions (or as a consequence of losing a race). Demon mode will cause Yugo to gain a large power boost and start exhibiting physical traits of Zarc, at the cost of blacking out the whole time and needing up to a week to recover afterwards.
-Elemental bending (Fire): Yugo can firebend (ATLA style). He's currently at a beginner level (basically the equivalent of a 2-point level power), but can gain more power over time with regain points. Obtained from a surprise grab bag prize in November 2024.
+ inventory
-Top of the line smartphone: A brand new smartphone gained via grab bag prize in October 2024.
-Gelly roll pens: A pack of sparkly gelly roll pens; difficult to write with. Gained via grab bag prize in October 2024.

-Banana light: A light that looks like a banana; obtained in October 2024.
-Cup of Purity: A drinking cup made of a unicorn's horn. When you drink a liquid from it, it'll neutralize any poisons or toxins in your body (unless plot says otherwise). Pouring poison into it will also neutralize the poison and make it safe to drink. Unfortunately, this applies to alcohol too. Obtained as a contest prize in October 2024.
-Robot Unicorn: A robot unicorn steed. It moves fast, leaving a trail of rainbows where it runs. Also it has a speaker that keeps playing this song. Obtained as a contest prize in October 2024.

Character Name: Yugo
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V
Canon History: Here!

Canon Personality: Yugo is, most obviously, impulsive, quick to act on his feelings, easily distracted, and can come off as a bit dumb. He frequently mistakes Rin's interdimensional counterparts for Rin herself despite being corrected multiple times, hates it when people assume his name is 'Fusion' (融合, Yugo) instead of Yugo (ユーゴ), and jumped to trying to fight Yuto on the assumption that he was the boy who kidnapped Rin. (He wasn't.) He also insists on riding his D-Wheel during duels even when his opponent has to duel on foot, impulsively chases after Rin's true kidnapper on spotting him despite being in the middle of a tournament at the time, is remarkably relaxed about his unexpected interdimensional hops, and can be quite crude mouthed.

That said, he does have his hidden depths. Yugo is skilled at both dueling and riding his D-Wheel, displaying the ability to pull off impressive stunts on the motorcycle while mid duel and think on the fly, and even once managed a duel while forced to switch his D-Wheel from Autopilot Mode (basically a cruise control for dueling purposes) to Manual Mode (rider is in full control of the motorcycle). He also does know when to get serious and focus, such as when the people he cares about are in danger.

Yugo also deeply cares for his childhood friend Rin, to the point where it's painfully obvious he has a crush on her even if he doesn't recognize it himself. Yugo's primary goal in the series is to track down and rescue Rin after she was kidnapped, and it's obvious that he misses her dearly and would be delighted to have her back.

Rescuing Rin isn't Yugo's only goal, though. He also desires to enter and win the Friendship Cup, which is a rare opportunity for Commons born City residents like Yugo to prove their strength and join the Tops. Yugo particularly idolizes Jack Atlas, the only Commons born to ever previously win the Friendship Cup and join the Tops, and he desires to duel Jack one day.

While Yugo being remarkably relaxed about his interdimensional hops can be seen as a sign of him being kind of dumb, it's also a sign of his adaptability, as he manages to adjust to it quickly and generally seems to get his bearings well enough once used to the hops.

Finally, Yugo can be rather helpful to others, as seen when he chose to help Yuzu attempt to warn the residents of City of the impending interdimensional war despite having no way to prove it, and is proud of how far she gets in the Friendship Cup. He is also saddened when he thinks Yuzu was killed in a duel against Sergey, and promises to carry on for her.

AU Name: Yugo Takahata
AU Age: 18
AU Birthday: February 24

AU History:
CW: Near fatal motorcycle accident
🏍️ Was put into the foster system at a very young age; has no real memory of his bio family. As a fellow foster kid, he would have known of Shio ([personal profile] reignitions).
🏍️ As Yugo grew up, he picked up an interest in motorsports, particularly motorcycle racing. This led to him trying to get into motorcycle sports and dirtbike racing himself by his teenage years.
🏍️ However, with his desire to pursue motorcycle racing came teenage recklessness. At the age of seventeen, just short of his eighteenth birthday, he attempted a stunt he'd seen on the internet. It ended horrifically, resulting in a serious dirtbike accident that would have killed Yugo if it weren't for the interference of the draconic demon Zarc.
🏍️ Yugo accepted the offered deal to save his life, 'miraculously' surviving his accident at the cost of becoming possessed. He doesn't really realize he was possessed though, instead viewing his half remembered interaction with Zarc as more of a bargain where Zarc gave him a second chance to live in exchange for entertaining the masses via motorcycle racing. Likewise, he also doesn't realize what will happen if he ever loses, since he has yet to lose a race ever since his possession.
🏍️ Yugo continues to pursue motorcycle racing, partially because he genuinely enjoys it and partially because his possession cost/'deal' demands him to partake in some kind of public entertainment once a month.
🏍️ His growing win streak after the accident is earning him some fame as a skilled racer amongst motorsports enthusiasts, especially for someone as young as him.
🏍️ He also recently got adopted/taken in by the Takahatas some time after his accident (just in time too, as he was about to age out of the foster system), making Shio his brother.

AU Personality Differences:
🏍️ Somewhat less streetwise: Unlike the canon Yugo, who grew up in an orphanage in a slum, this Yugo benefited from an actual foster system (as much as one can benefit from that). As a result, he's not quite as streetwise as the canon Yugo, and tends to be not as wary of cops as his canon self.
🏍️ Not as used to supernatural stuff: The canon Yugo is extremely used to being teleported from dimension to dimension. This version of Yugo is only just learning about the supernatural existing, so he's quite a bit more taken off guard by it all.
🏍️ A little more mature: Yugo, being eighteen vs his canon self being fourteen, has a little more maturity from age. That said, he's still a dumbass.
🏍️ Better education: Due to being raised in an actual foster system instead of an orphanage in a slum, Yugo has better education than his canon self. Again though, he's still a dumbass.

Element: Wind
Purchased Powers:
🏍️ Medium Speed Boost- 3 points
🏍️ Medium Luck- 2 points
🏍️ Low Fall Damage Reduction- 2 points
🏍️ Small Spirit Companion- 2 points (His spirit companion looks like this.)

Possession: Yugo was possessed by the draconic entity Zarc after a nasty dirtbike accident, owing to the violent but competitive entity seeing Yugo as potentially useful. This possession has a steep cost; Yugo must partake in some kind of public entertainment/competition at least once a month and win. Yugo satisfies this via motorcycle races.

If he doesn't win, Zarc throws a hissy fit forces Yugo into demon mode and starts attacking anyone nearby until Yugo is either subdued or Zarc drags his unfortunate host to the Spirit Realm. Likewise, if Yugo doesn't enter enough races to please Zarc, then Zarc gets more and more angry until a demon mode incident is forced.

PERSONALITY
SUMMARY
Yugo is, most obviously, impulsive, quick to anger and just as quick to act on his feelings, easily distracted, and can come off as a bit dumb. He frequently mistakes Rin's interdimensional counterparts for Rin herself despite being corrected multiple times, hates it when people assume his name is 'Fusion' (融合, Yūgō) instead of Yugo (ユーゴ), and jumped to trying to fight Yuto on the assumption that he was the boy who kidnapped Rin.

He is also saddened when he thinks Yuzu was killed in a duel against Sergey, and promises to carry on for her.

(Oddly, Yugo has a habit of synchronizing with his interdimensional counterparts whenever any of them are dueling in the same general area. This manifests as Yugo acting out the duel if he is not the one actually dueling, generally becoming more intense/violent, and gaining glowing blue eyes. Yugo has no explanation for this, but can vaguely recall the feeling of having been in a duel after the fact.)

BACKGROUND
FAMILY+FRIENDS+ENEMIES
Rin
Yugo's childhood friend and not!love interest. Helped Yugo build his current D-Wheel. Was kidnapped by Yugo's interdimensional lookalike Yuri, now Yugo is determined to find her.

Yuzu Hiiragi
Rin's interdimensional lookalike from the Standard Dimension who was accidentally brought back to the Synchro Dimension with Yugo. Yugo sometimes mistakes her for Rin, but they do develop a friendship and he helps her enter the Friendship Cup.

Yuri
Yugo's interdimensional lookalike from the Fusion Dimension. Kidnapped Rin, Yugo is determined to track Yuri down and get Rin back. Yugo will attempt to confront and challenge Yuri on sight.
HOMETOWN
City, Synchro Dimension (Commons)
ABILITIES
Card Games on Motorcycles
Yugo is capable of not only both riding a motorcycle and dueling at the same time, but also displays a good amount of acrobatics on his D-Wheel in the process. Admittedly, the motorcycle in question is usually in Autopilot Mode when he's dueling, but it's still impressive that he can do this without crashing or losing track of his plays. Yugo generally insists on dueling on his motorcycle even when his opponent has to duel on foot.
Interdimensional Hopping
Yugo's copy of the Clear Wing Synchro Dragon card allows him to hop between the dimensions. However, he doesn't really control this ability and frequently ends up hopping without intending it/without knowing where he's going.
Synchronization
Yugo has a habit of unintentionally synchronizing with his interdimensional counterparts (Yuya, Yuto, and Yuri) if any of them are dueling in the area. Effects of this on Yugo include acting out the duel if he is not the one dueling, becoming more intense/violent, gaining glowing blue eyes, and talking about 'becoming one'. If their trademark dragon monsters (Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon, Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, and Starving Venom Fusion Dragon) are on the field when this happens, then the dragons may start reacting/acting out too. Yugo generally doesn't remember these synchronizations and can't explain them, but can at least recall having the feeling of being in a duel.

As it turns out, the reason for these synchronizations is that Yugo is actually one fourth of Zarc, the Devil Duelist. When Zarc's soul was split into four to stop him from destroying the Original Dimension, the four pieces of his soul were reincarnated into the four newly formed dimensions (Standard, Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ) as Yugo and his lookalikes. The synchronizations are the result of Yugo unconsciously trying to reunite with his counterparts to reform Zarc.
TRIVIA
-Has a poor education due to growing up in an orphanage in Commons.
-Had to self teach how to ride a D-Wheel and, alongside Rin, how to build the one he has.
-Has numerous small scars from crashing and building his D-Wheel. They're especially clustered around his hands.
